This 4-day budget Murchison Falls safari is one of the most affordable and budget friendly wildlife safaris to Murchison Falls National Park. On this safari you will visit Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda for a great wildlife safari, where you will meet the Big Five giants of Africa.
You will also visit the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a rhino trekking safari in Uganda, then proceed for a game and wildlife viewing safari in the Park. During the drive you will be able to spot elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, lions and a variety of antelopes – which are regularly encountered while on the game drive. Lions can also be seen with increasing frequency.
A full day is dedicated for a unique boat ride along the Nile Delta through which the Victoria Nile flows into Lake Albert. The Nile itself hosts one of Africa’s densest hippo and crocodile populations, and a dazzling variety of water birds including the world’s most accessible wild population of the rare shoebill stork.
4-Day Budget Murchison Falls Safari Itinerary: –
Day 1: Kampala – Murchison Falls
Our guide picks you up from your hotel or place of residence in Kampala at 7:30 am and begin the panoramic drive north-west through the famous Luwero Triangle and Masindi Town to start off with a morning drive to Murchison via Masindi. Branch off for a visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a guided Rhino walk and picnic lunch. Continue to Murchison Falls. Enjoy the sunset as you return to the lodge.
Dinner and overnight stay at Red Chili Camp, Heritage Lodge or Twiga Tale Lodge (budget facility). Meal plan breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 2: Murchison Falls
Begin the day with a cup of African coffee, and then proceed for a game drive in the park. Elephants, Cape buffaloes, Rothschild’s giraffes, Uganda kobs, hartebeest and waterbuck are common sightings. You may also spot oribis, bushbucks, Bohor reedbucks, bush duiker, warthogs and bush pigs. Large carnivores that include lions, leopards and spotted hyenas can also be spotted.
After lunch, you will go for a boat safari upstream the calm Victoria Nile to the base of Murchison Falls stopping just tens of meters from the “Devil’s Cauldron”. En-route, you will marvel at the toothsome hippos, crocodiles, elephants, waterbucks and kobs, over this 17 km stretch.
This is also a zone of many bird species such as Goliath heron, Egyptian goose, pelican bee-eater, kingfisher, hornbill, cormorants and the rare shoebill stork.
There, you will leave the boat and start your – quite heavy – hike to the top of the falls (for approx. 1 hour), to see where the world’s longest river explodes violently through a narrow cleft in the Rift Valley escarpment, to plunge into a frothing pool of about 43m below. Your driver/guide will be waiting for you to bring you back to the lodge.
Dinner and overnight stay at Red Chili Camp, Heritage Lodge or Twiga Tale Lodge (budget facility). Meal plan breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 3: Boat ride along the Nile Delta Murchison Falls
After your morning breakfast, you will get ready for a boat trip to the Nile Delta which takes you between 4-5hrs. This is one of the most interesting experiences in Murchison Falls National Park, taking you through the extensive papyrus delta and the Victoria Nile which flows into Lake Albert. Here, again there are plenty of animals and birds to see with an excellent chance of seeing the rare Shoebill. The afternoon is spent relaxing at your Lodge.
Dinner and overnight stay at Red Chili Camp, Heritage Lodge or Twiga Tale Lodge (budget facility). Meal plan breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 4: Murchison Falls – Kampala Entebbe Out
Wake up at 6:00 am prepared to take photos of the African rising sun in the morning and enjoy African breakfast.
