7-Day Murchison Falls and Primate Tracking Safari Itinerary: –

Day 1: Arrival Entebbe Airport – Kampala

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our guide who will then take you to Serena Kampala Hotel (high-end) or Cassia Lodge (mid-range) or Forest Cottages Kampala (budget facility) for an overnight stay and dinner. Meal plan: dinner.

Day 2: Kampala – Murchison Falls

You will be picked your hotel or place of residence in Kampala. Begin the panoramic drive north-west through the famous Luwero Triangle and travel to Masindi via Ziwa Rhino Project. A visit to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino trekking is a must, before proceeding to Murchison Falls National Park after lunch.

After lunch, you will have a stopover at the Boomu Women Community project, for an encouraging community experience. Thereafter you will drive to Murchison Falls for a spectacular moment at a site situated on top of the falls, to see the Nile’s beauty perfected!

Marvel at the Nile and see how it compresses from up to 1km squeeze through a 7-meter canyon, dropping 45 meters below, with a thunderous roar that creates a beautiful rainbow. You will also enjoy a plume of spray as the best thing that happened to the Nile – “the Murchison Falls”.

Day 3: Murchison Falls National Park

Begin the day with a cup of African Coffee ready for an early morning game drive. Your guide will help you spot elephants, lions, cape buffaloes, Rothschild’s giraffes, hartebeests, waterbucks, oribis, bushbucks, Bohor reedbucks, hyenas and if you are lucky, the leopard. You will then return to the hotel for breakfast and lunch.

In the afternoon, you will enjoy a boat trip towards the Murchison Falls. Carefully watched by crocodiles, hundreds of hippos, buffaloes, water birds, apes and all the other thirsty wildlife that the Nile attracts. You will go to the bottom of the 43-meter-high cleft of the famous Murchison Falls, which approaches you with a thunderous sound.  It is this narrow cleft in the Rift Valley escarpment to plunge into a frothing pool 43m below.

This is also a zone of many bird species like Goliath heron, Egyptian goose, pelican bee-eater, kingfisher, hornbill, cormorant and the rare shoebill stork.

Day 4: Murchison Falls – Kibale Forest National Park

All day drive south via Hoima to Fort Portal through verdant countryside and past traditional homesteads and farms along Albertine Rift escarpments. Fort-Portal rests in the shadow of the fabled ‘Mountains of the Moon’.

Meals and overnight stay at Kyaninga Lodge (luxury facility) or Primate Lodge-Forest Cottages (mid-range) or Chimpanzee Guest House (budget facility). Meal plan breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 5: Kibale Forest National Park – Bwindi Impenetrable

Enjoy a half day search for chimpanzees and 10 other primates including L’Hoest’s, red colobus, blue, and red-tailed monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys. The guide will provide detailed explanations, not only on primates, but also on all the forest fauna and flora and will ensure that your walk is both informative and enjoyable. This walk is excellent for viewing birdlife and seeing primates at close quarters.

After lunch, you will proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via Queen Elizabeth National Park. While enroute you may spot many wildlife species including elephants, and buffaloes among others. Bwindi Impenetrable is the lushest highland rain forest on earth, filled with primates and exotic birds, valleys, hilltops and papyrus swamps.

Dinner and overnight stay at either Buhoma Lodge/Mahogany Springs/Gorilla Safari Lodge (high-end lodge) or Sliverback Lodge/Chameleon Hill Lodge (mid-range) or Buhoma Community Bandas/Wagtail Eco Camp (budget facility). Meal plan breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking Bwindi – Part of 7-Day Murchison Falls and Primate Tracking Safari

Begin the day with breakfast while getting ready for an experiential gorilla trekking tour, which begins at 8:00 am, with a briefing from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) staff. Ensure that you carry along with you a rain jacket, drinking water, snacks, and jungle boots among others. The guides will lead you inside the jungle to see the shy primates for a group you have been booked for.

Do not forget to take your lunch boxes and all the necessary gear to track the rare mountain gorilla, on perhaps one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on the earth. The tracking may take between 2 and 6 hours, but it’s well worth the effort. The afternoon is spent on a foot safari to the local communities living around the park.

Dinner and overnight stay at either Buhoma Lodge/Mahogany Springs/Gorilla Safari Lodge (high-end lodge) or Sliverback Lodge/Chameleon Hill Lodge (mid-range) or Buhoma Community Bandas/Wagtail Eco Camp (budget facility). Meal plan breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 7: Bwindi – Kampala/Entebbe

Return to Kampala, then Entebbe, with lunch enroute and stop over at Igongo Cultural Centre and the Equator crossing monument. Thereafter, you will return to Kampala where you will be dropped off to a place of residence or your hotel home. Meal plan: breakfast and lunch.
